5 Reasons Why You Should Eat Seafood

If you know me, then you know that seafood is my favorite! With seafood, there’s so much to choose from you’ll never run out of options. From salmon to shrimp and halibut, the choices are endless. With the various species that you can include in your seafood, you can come up with numerous amounts of tasty dishes to make! Some of my own personal favorite seafood dishes include my Thai Fish Curry Recipe and my Cod Fish Cake Recipe. Not only is seafood delicious, but there are so many benefits that come with eating seafood. If you don’t eat seafood, here are 5 reasons as to why you should consider trying it out!

Reason #1: Omega-3 Fatty Acids

The content of Omega-3 is one of the reasons why you should consider eating seafood. Omega-3 is a fatty acid that helps with improving your eye health, fighting inflammation, and boosting brain functions. These are just a few of the benefits that Omega-3 fatty acids can do for your health and well-being. Darker oily fish tend to have the highest levels of Omega-3 content. These types of fish include herring, salmon, mackerel, and bluefish.

Reason #2: Help Cholesterol

As we get older, we need to start minding our cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends eating at least two servings of fish a week to help attain heart benefits. Fish such as salmon contain high density lipids that can breakdown low density lipids that accumulate in your bloodstream. This can help decrease the risk of cardiovascular illnesses.

Reason #3: Lean Source Of Protein

Seafood is known for having a lean source of protein. Protein is an essential nutrient that is meant to provide your body with energy that you need in your everyday life. Seafood provides your body with a good amount of protein and it’s typically low on fat. Typically all fish and seafood have good sources of protein but salmon and tuna in particular have the highest levels of nutrients and protein.

Reason #4: No Added Hormones or Antibiotics

Nowadays, it is important that we are aware of what we are putting into our stomach. There has been awareness in how some meat, milk, and eggs are being processed and what is being added to them. There have been several cases in which our food products that we consume have been exposed to chemicals, added hormones, added antibiotics, and other extra ingredients we have no knowledge of. This is why it is so important to be aware of what you’re consuming. Processed wild seafood guarantees that there is no presence of any contamination. You have to make sure your food products are natural and organic.

Reason #5: Vitamin D

Vitamin D provides your body with the nutrients to help maintain strong healthy bones and teeth. It also helps to support your immune system, brain health, and nervous system. A lack of vitamin D in the body can lead to bone pain, muscle weakness, depression, and feeling fatigue or tiredness. Fish that contain the highest amounts of vitamin D include salmon, herring, and sardines.

Hopefully those 5 reasons made you want to give seafood a chance. There are so many health benefits to gain from eating seafood. There are so many fish to choose from, I’m sure you’ll find one that you’ll love!
